Mid-June: the broad-catalogue marketplaces (Farfetch, SSENSE) and the European luxury retailers (Mytheresa, MatchesFashion) launch their summer sales together. First-pass cuts are typically 20-30% off. The department-store retailers (Nordstrom, Saks, Selfridges) often lead by a week with deeper opening cuts.
Early to mid-July: the depth ladders up to 40-50%. Curation-first retailers (Net-a-Porter, Mr Porter) join the sale at this point, typically a week or two behind the broader market. Stackable percent-off codes appear on the broader-catalogue side. The Italian retailers run regional promos that sometimes cross 60% with currency conversion.
Late July through early August: final cuts. Depth reaches 70% on the broad-catalogue marketplaces; 50-60% on the curation-first retailers; occasional 80% cuts on the department-store deep cuts (clearance into pre-fall). Size runs thin; the size 6 and the size 50 outliers usually survive longest.
Broad-catalogue and European retailers launch first at 20-30% off. Best for selection breadth, worst for depth.
